Project: "Happenstance" - York University 4th Year Production

Logline:
Through a chance encounter, two recent university graduates gain the courage to deal with the next adult stage in their lives.

Film Synopsis:
Jack is university graduate about to return home to China to accept a job offer. Because of his relationship with his girlfriend Ava, however, he is not sure he wants to leave. Unable to make a decision, he delays his flight by a day and goes wandering solo in the city.

Jack meets Remy; another university graduate who is on her very first backpacking trip. Remy became engaged two weeks ago to her fiancée Nathaniel but desires to go traveling before getting married. As her trip begins, she starts to wonder if she has committed too early.

Through this chance encounter, Jack and Remy learn from each other and gain a new perspective and courage on how to face the next steps in their lives.

Characters:

(Lead) JACK Gender: Male Age: 20 - 25 Chinese. Bilingual preferable (Mandarin or Cantonese). Medium build. Medium to long hair. Would be ideal if the actor can play the guitar. Introspective, dazed though not unintelligent, but slightly confused. Has a silent gentle quality. Has moved around a lot throughout Asia and North America and was raised in an international school circuit. Jack does not know where his home is and is tired of moving around. He is unable to make a decision between taking the new job offer and staying with his girlfriend.

(Lead) REMY Gender: Female Age: 20 - 28 Brunette Caucasian or Pacific Mixed Asian. Medium build. Short to long hair. Affable, spunky, lighthearted, determined. A young Shannyn Sossamon type. Remy is a free spirit but a bit naïve due to a lack of world experience. Remy possesses a quirky sense of humor and is an open conversationalist. Remy was born and raised all her life in small town Canada with moderate city experience. Remy just became engaged two weeks ago to her fiancée Nathaniel before starting her backpacking trip. Remy desires to discover and experience the outside world and insists that she must travel now before she gets married.

(Principal) AVA Gender: Female Age: 20 - 25 Asian or Any Ethnicity. Jack's girlfriend. A girl with a warm, nurturing sense of humor. Ava is the reason that Jack does not want to leave. Approx. 1 - 2 days.
