SYNOPSIS:
While traveling to school Leah, a 17-year old high school junior, is inspired by the soulful music of 50-year-old street musician Delka Jubb. Pageant Queen is the story of a girl trying to find her place in a world where she doesn't fit in, not even in her own home.

5 BREAKDOWNS:
1. LEAH: Female / 15-17 yrs. / Black - Caribbean. Leah is a 17-year-old high school student in Toronto. She lives in a tiny apartment with her mother, Aunt, 2 male cousins and grandfather and it’s beginning to take its toll on her. For a better education, Leah's mother uses a fake address to send her to a better school across the city. Leah feels repressed and reacts by acting out, but ultimately she is a good person. She loves music and all other art forms. Caribbean ethnicity is preferred but not required
2. DELKA JUBBA: Male / 51-60 yrs. / Any Ethnicity. 50-year-old former musician spends his time playing his guitar for spare change in Downtown Toronto Subway stations. An immigrant to Toronto, he came to Canada to pursue a music career, but started a family with his girlfriend, who eventually left him, taking his daughter with her. Experience playing a guitar or Lute are essential. An actor of African ethnicity is preferred, but not required.
3. SANDRA: Female / 41-50 yrs. / Black - Caribbean. Sandra migrated to Canada from Jamaica in 1990. After becoming pregnant with Leah, Sandra and her husband Otis moved into a small apartment in Downtown Toronto. After Otis left Sandra, she had to adapt to life as a single-mother. Raised in the toughest part of Kingston, Sandra is no stranger to struggle. Through the years she has fought to provide her daughter with as much as she could by whatever means she could. Caribbean ethnicity is preferred, but not required.
4. LEAH'S COUSIN: Male / 15-17 yrs. / Black - Caribbean. Leah's Cousin is living temporarily in the same tiny apartment as Leah and her mother. He sleeps on Leah's bedroom floor, an arrangement that both are not happy about. Caribbean ethnicity is preferred, but not required.
5. GIRL 1 and GIRL 2: Female / 15-17 yrs. / Any Ethnicity. Girl 1 and Girl 2 live in Leah's neighbourhood and don't approve of Leah going to a better school in a nicer neighbourhood. They poke fun of Leah, which results in a scuffle.
