SYNOPSIS:

Karen's Husband is a short story about two construction workers, Ray and Bill. They live and work in Georgetown, Ontario. Each morning they drive to work going through the same routine of buying coffee from the local coffee shop.

However, this morning, Ray decides to open up to Bill about his wife's affair, changing the monotonous but friendly dynamic between the two.

After confronting his situation, left torn apart, Ray tries to distract himself by getting the morning coffee. However his anger and pain follow him resulting in a confrontation with a stranger, Marissa.

Character Summaries:

Ray (36): Ray is Bill's best friend, they have known each other for 8 years and meet through work. Ray's life is based on routine. Everyday Bill picks him up from his house at 7.20, and they drive to their job at Cinco construction. Ray married Karen, his high school sweetheart, at 20 and since then the relationship has grown more and more distant. Ray’s life is of routine, and so was his relationship with Karen, which led to her adultery.

Bill (36): Bill picks up Ray, everyday, happily. They drive together, usually talking about the television the night previous or if they went out together the night before, they listen to the radio. However, when Bill goes home, he is welcomed into a platonic, healthy relationship, with his wife Debbie. This is one of, and probably the only difference between Ray and Bill.

Marissa (27): Marissa teaches at the local elementary school, and loves her job. Her friends would say that she is far too creative to be teaching at just elementary school, but Marissa believes that the children truly appreciate that in her. She is a well adjusted young woman, but would much rather deal with children instead of adults if she had the choice.
