Synopsis:

In the near future, the world as we know it is gone, lost to nuclear destruction. Alone in the wasteland is a lone church. Boarded up and shut in, its residents are a group of teens called the Children of the Atom. Born and raised in the church, they know nothing of the outside world…except for one. Julia, a young woman in the church, struggles against the lecherous hands of their charismatic leader, Father Whitley. Not even Julia's partner William will help her, as all of the children hold Father Whitley's word as absolute truth. Julia alone holds the truth of the world outside. Alone among many, Julia must find her own truth and escape the church. In her alone is the key to Preservation.

Breakdowns

1. Julia: Female/ 18-22 yrs./ Any Ethinicity. Has lived her entire life in the bondage of the Church of the Atom. She shies away from the other children and especially Father Whitley. She takes comfort in only two things: her assigned partner William, and the crumbling tomb of a book under her bed. the daily abuses of Father Whitley only further push her to invest herself in the escapism of the hidden book. Meek, malnourished, but very much alive inside, Julia is at the breaking point; one more abuse away from finally trying to escape.

2. William: Male/ 18-25 yrs/ Any Ethnicity. Dedicated to a fault to his home and his Father Whitley, whom William aims to please more than any other. Raised along with Julia and the other children, William holds true to Father Whitley's teachings. His loyalty and obedience have served him well in the church, as he has quickly become Father Whitley's favourite. William does love Julia, but wishes she could show the same amount of dedication. Earnest, hard working, and devoted, William is a stand up man, save for his choice in allegiances.

3. Father Whitley/ 45-60 yrs/ Any Ethnicity. Charismatic, intelligent, and snake-like in his charm, Father Whitley is a late middle aged scientist and survivor of the nuclear fallout. Whitley is a man of two minds. On one hand he has survived the apocalypse and earnestly cares for his adopted children. He originally wished to teach them the world of science and the atom from birth, and shelter them forever from the harshness of the wasteland outside. As years went by, and the children grew, Whitley has regressed too far into his role of a one man savoir. He thinks of himself so highly now, that nothing is beyond his want, even his own children. Whitley truly believes himself to be in total control, his actions justifying themselves.
